I've got an activity report in my hand that is a major step forward to discover the true meaning of life.
Without any further comments here is the report:

Project Dreamland Inc.
The Meaning Of Life
Ongoing research, activity report no. 14A42
Lead scientist: Helmut Bremmel

The philosophy department is close to find out all about the meaning of life and we are very proud to state some of our results in this report.
...

Let us think about a human, one that is blind, deaf and mute. And while any real human being would still be able to taste or feel a touch, this one cannot. So, this person is missing all of our 5 senses and to rule out any possibilities of undiscovered senses, let us say this human is not receiving ANY input from the world it lives in. The question arises if a person such as this is able to live and if yes, if it would develop and in what way?
Our assumption was that without any input a human being will not develop and will die. This is not so wrong, as history tells us in an experiment, that babies when growing up without love and attention will eventually die.
Now, if we can conclude that the state of receiving no inputs is death, we may conclude the opposite, that a state of receiving many inputs is life. Actually this would be our definition of life: It is the state of a being that is able to process inputs at points when there are many inputs to process.

The meaning builds atop of this as the work becomes the purpose. The purpose or the meaning of life is to process inputs. There's no obligation to derive anything great or to achieve anything outstandingly. We can go so far as to say it doesn't demand any form of output. A living being, one that is processing inputs, is only supposed to continue what it's doing. What could be simpler? And what could explain more why death hits us that hard?

Dreamland Massmoving tendencies

Another Project Dreamland news from our scientific advancements and technology department that brings us knowledge from the next century. This time they calculated an early estimate on a prediction function that would output the development of humanity and our nice little environment given some crude but essential variables of our times. It's something like a weather forecast and in the 22nd century pretty essential. You'll not be hearing wether it's going to be raining today, but if there is a mass protest and a civilian uprising, wether there are any wars coming up or if economy is taking a hit next week. This is similar to what Isaac Asimov already predicted with his brainchild the Psychohistory and it's becoming a reality. Ofc, it's not that accurate and it's error prone to unknown outside factors, but in the short to middle term it should provide us with good knowledge on where we are heading.

Dreamland Watch your Emotions (Live)

Another activity report from our social engineering department that sounded interesting. It deals about human conflict, aggression and how to better deal with them. The first part summarizes several real world conflicts of our time and how they get stuck with the sides moving, but not changing. How can these situations be solved?
This question is answered in the second part, where they present the idea, that it's important to live your emotions. When you hide them, they will aggregate, change you accordingly and explode later on. Humans become dangerous time bombs. It's important for everyone to live emotions, but unfortunately it's only possible in the rarest instances. To counter this they propose a device that feeds your mind with the satisfaction you need in this very moment. When you're aggressive, you're shown lots of pictures that feed your aggression and instead of enraging the participants, this had calmed them down. Sexually intensive persons were calmed by feeding them with sexual images in the right moment.
An advantage of this device is that it doesn't create images, but rather strengthens the participants fantasies and puts them in a more concrete context.

We understand that this is not a tool for everyone, but a help for people who cannot cope with their emotions. On a grand scale people vs people, it'd still be best to organize a football match!

Dreamland Travel Tubes

The future kind of transportation has recently been developed in our mobility technology labs and it's amazing. The basic idea is to have a system of tubes with a certain size, much like our streets, but below earth. They are designed in a hub like system where the bigger cities distributor nodes are connected through various tubes, which in turn are connected with smaller distributor nodes and finally to the end user or public terminal. Instead of a car, you'll own a cylindrical carrier device. You get into it, enter the destination and it will take you wherever you want and wherever you have access to. At first the system will be mostly public, but as the technology becomes cheaper it will connect to each and every household. The advantages of this system compared to the automotive transportation of the early 21st century are:
1. Higher throughput - the whole system will be computer operated and highly efficient, gone are the times of waiting infront of a street-light with no car coming from either direction and gone are the days of human error. Computers are not perfect either, but there will be a lot less accidents.
2. Greater speeds - the technology to move these devices will be similar to the technology of maglev trains which could already reach speeds of 500kph in the early 21st century.
3. Mixture of public and individual transportation - it's still individual transportation as you can get to any point from any point, however it can also be used publically if the state provides several carrier devices for public use, anybody could call them and use them to go wherever they please (or wherever they are allowed to go with them).
4. As green as the sources you generate electricity from and in general there will be a lot less contamination than with cars
5. Different tubes for different services - a passenger tube has different requirements than one for goods.

Basically it's like a gigantic pneumatic post system.

Dreamland Evaluater

Project Dreamland Inc. has to announce that we made a mistake. The "Understander", the machine we proudly presented last time proved to be inusable. We operated on some test persons, but none was able to reproduce the knowledge he or she gained during the operation. We could not even measure brain activity or receive any electrical signalling from the head, owing to some of the heavy force-fields we had to implement. Additionally the participants of the test showed signs of neural disorder after they had been enlightened and it seemed that the brain would undergo a rapid degradation process while being inside the tunnel. Unfortunately we have to conclude that this project failed.

We've also made a lot of thoughts on how to prevent this from happening in the future and we've come to the conclusion that only a solid autonomous machine evaluation process could help us in our future goals. We are thus trying to invent several automate "evaluaters", to aid us in determining the quality of our work. We are not thinking that they'll replace human evaluation in the near future, but as we've noted human descision making often is error prone and we felt the lack of a machine based approach in addition to the human jury.
The various thoughts on this machine circled around two basic ideas. First, we think about a very specific single-domain evaluation process implemented in a machine with detailed knowledge on the single topic only and a more general cross-domain evaluater that will try to link paths and determine the quality of our work given more general knowledge about a multitude of fields. We consider both evaluaters to be equally important, yet in some cases one might prove to be more useful than the other.
We're also using them to evaluate their own application in all the different fields and so far we could even think of a DSS aiding judges in court. It'll be interesting to get an overview of all the possible implementations and how they'll turn out.

Dreamland Give Me a Break

Project Dreamland Inc. has made progress over the past couple of months in many ways. It has suffered setbacks and still stood against the flow of time which is cruel and not to stop. We decided we shall skip building a time machine or a teleporter. We don't felt we need to cover travel in time or in coordinates, so we thought hard about other means and we found that we need to build a machine that lets you view everything all at once, so that for a single moment, the duration of a thought, everything seems totally clear and makes perfect sense - so to say a machine that let's you UNDERSTAND!

We felt that understanding is more important than travel in time and travel in space. We felt that if we don't understand we'll never exit our shells and evolve as beings that really stand above the rest, beings that are meant to be God.

So we built a machine that will make you understand each and every thing, no question remains unasked, in fact the effect is such that all questions become meaningless because you know the answer before it already. A gigantic brain with the knowledge of everything and a connection to a metalevel where there is supposed to be the ideas that create this world.
Our research departments tried hard to really find the idea-world which is bigger and more powerful than that of our body. We knew it existed, because our brains made the connection and we could see that we could calculate with infinity, something which is never possible here. In the end we found it and we incorporated a tunnel in this device that you put your head in and be enlightened.

Dreamland Genre Classifaction

The question to be asked in one of our latest activity reports is: Why do music genres almost always focus around the style of music, but not the message it carries or is the message inherently tied to the style?

Our group of musicologists tried to dig into this question over the past months and came up with several different classifications that are not commonly used.
So if you for example open up Winamp 2.81, look at the ID3 tag of an mp3 and select the Genre drop down list you'll notice lots of different entries, probably over 100, ranging from A Cappella to Vocal. If you single out the most common ones, as far as this is possible, without digging into your more favorite ones, you'll still be left with lots of options. For one, we could divide everything into Alternative, Pop and Classic and explain that every others would be subcategories. In some cases this would work well, in some other cases this would not work so well, it is still a very abstract description and it is arguable if "Alternative" is just to satisfy the people trying to seperate their minds from the "mainstream". Overall it's pretty hard to distinguish between Alternative and Pop and it becomes even more so when more and more Bands from Alternative become popular enough, alternative music becoming popular. Additionally what to do with music such as 50s, 60s, 70s or the synthesizer music of the 80s - Alternative when they were Pop in the past? Still Pop or add them to the Mozarts, Beethovens and Bachs? There arises already a conflict, because Classic would suggest a classification that is time based, but Pop and Alternative much more focus on the number of people listing to it, radio stations playing it and popularity has more problems like Folk music which is hard to classify that way.
So the current situation is a compromise between classifying every band as own genre and just call it all music. It is trying to develop a name for the message of the various bands and artists, so that we have Rock'n'Roll, Rap, Hip-Hop, Rock, Metal,.. . And the message in this case both means the textual content (the semantics) and the envelope (the music/expression), because quite obviously the same vocal message can be sent in different envelopes and both is important to humans. We have yet to look into how exactly the semiotic framework applies here.

Based on this, we'll also more look at the message of the music for genre classification and examine content and envelope to fit the group or song into a genre. What we are going to develop is a matrix of textual content (love, rage against authority, hate, well-feeling,...) and music style based on some more easy factors such as beat, amplitude and some more complex ones as frequency analysis, cleaness and others. Given that we can put a good abstraction for textual content that is equally detailed for every entry we could classify all kinds of music, because what really differes us humans is not the text - all these feelings are inherently tied to humanity - but the envelope, which is on the one hand bounded by the limitation of our ears and on the other unlimited in our creativity of how to express things.

Dreamland Workshop for the living Dead

When you have come to the point, where it seems impossible to go on and Black Jack awaits for your arrival, you should always remember that you should have taken the Dreamland Workshop for the living Dead and reading on now is definately a step in the right direction. Find TEH theory on the universe, life and everything here.

(i) The first thing to keep in mind is that death is part of life as much as birth is. There is no beginning and no end and this beginning-end thinking stems from a look that is too close and focused. The apple grows and falls off the tree, the human is born, the human dies. If you however extract yourself from this view and view it from a larger distance you will always be able to see cycles and cycles over cycles. Next year the apple grows again and falls off again and will continue to do so. New humans are born with the combined genetic information.
(ii) The next thing to see is that there is infinity everywhere, but not in the sense that you can never reach the end of the universe, the infinity is that on the surface of a ball, no matter in which direction you go, you will never reach the end, however you may run across locations you have already been. The space is constrained, but the movement is not.
(iii) The third and final thing to remember is that everything is energy, as proven by Einstein's famous formula: E=mc^2 which basically says that energy equals matter. Energy cannot be destroyed and cannot be created it is available in various different forms which can only change shape. Electricity may become heat and heat may be transformed into movement. I have an activity report concerning energy transformations on my desk, which I will summarize at a later date.

These things allow us to view the universe life and everything as a process of reoccuring cycles that will continue in limited space for an infinite amount of time and with a limited amount of energy (=matter). The universe is an automata!

An automata is simply described as a 5 tupel, with states, input, output and 2 functions, one that produces output and the other that advances the state. The universe is slightly different as there is no input. This is called a feedback automata and means that the universe advances in state solely based on its current state. The transition function is that of the laws of physics, chemistry, mathematics,... but much richer than what we know now. If the universe produces an output is yet unknown.

And here comes the very first thing again: cycles. The universe, which is nothing else than the current state of the feedback automata may come to a point where it has been already and because only the current state is used to decide the next state, the universe cycles. There exists a special automata which has a cycle of maximum length and where the universe passes each possible states except the zero state.
We can only speculate on wether our universe is an automata with maximum length that will transform into all the different possibilities or if we are trapped in some cycle that uses only a part of the possible states of the universe. A requirement would certainly be that the space is discrete, if this is the case, is still unknown.
Anyway, if we'd acknowledge the Big Bang Theory this would mean that eventually the universe will collapse again and the Big Bang will reoccur expanding the same universe again. There you have a cycle and you can split it up at any point to have your beginning and end, it will still be a cycle.

It is clear that this restricts our abilities of free will and such as we are all part of a function whose behavior is given, but only predictable as the exact calculation would require an automata the same size of the universe, which is impossible to achieve when we cannot escape our universe.
We cannot change our future, we can only explore it. Those who expect a manual on what to do, much as pretty much all religions deliver may be dissapointed, but I cannot help you.
Our departments are going to examine this for possible applications and technologies. I perceive interesting things to surface.

Dreamland Tarjetas

Last December, head of Project Dreamland Inc., Mister Donnie D., started a campaign to reduce the plastic card overflow in his wallet. I went to the fridge, but it was empty. I checked the drawer with the sweets, but there were none,... okay... I jumped to the bowl with the fruits only to stop mid-air with open mouth and popped out eyes. I looked for some frozen-ready-to-be-heated food, but gave up. In the whole house there was not even a single piece of food!
"Okay", I thought streching the "ay" in an annoyed way. I grabed some trousers, socks a pullover, slipped into my shoes and crossed the street to reach the bakery, "cling-clang" and I went in. There were about three people all covered with heavy clothing because it was freezing cold. The woman first in the line said that she wanted bread and rolls, but the reply was that they had nothing. The woman left the store crying. I wondered and shivered: "Get on!" I thought. Same game with the next one. Obviously the bakery was sold out already. How can anyone eat that much? Seriously! So... "okay" stretching it even more, I went to the supermarket which was "CLOSED". What??? It's Monday, I am hungry and there is no place to eat. I am jumping into my car heading for McD. It's crowded with cars and people, it looks like an organized chaos. I began to realize that I am hungry, my flat is cold there is no food and no way that I could get some. I began to realize that I might end up hungry all day and soon I felt the first signs of a certain fear which I would have never thought it really exists. Then I woke up.

Of course the above is totally fictional for me. I live in a world where there is so much food, I'd never have to starve. In my world there exist other fears.

For example I suffer from Arachnophobia. I am very afraid of vaccinations and am always close to faint. Last time I was having a vaccination, all those mothers brought their babies as well and they cried loud and painfully. Guess how I felt!

Anyway Project Dreamland Inc., has made first progress on a Negative Fear Suppression Device, we'd continue putting money into this hole and making false promises. Fear will soon be the #1 illness that this world suffers from and we sure want to dig a mine into that. Fear not, we are teh fear killers (it works faster if you believe in it)!

Dreamland song analyst

Whoever hastried himself onwriting asong? Inever imaginedhow todo this, but Ihave gottencurious lately. Whatis itthat wecould writeabout ina song? Aboutlove? Abouthappiness? Afunny storyperhaps, somethingthat hashappened tous already.
Solet' sstart byanalizing somesong. Let's takeLimp BizkitBehind BlueEyes:

It starts with a nice guitar rythm when the vocal finally tells us:

"No one knows what it's like / to be the bad man / to be the sad man / behind blue eyes"

From this first line we can already see that the author is grossly exaggerating or unbelievable lonely and because we do want to listen further and becaue of the nice guitar rythm let's assume he is incredibly lonely, knows no one else and thus is permitted to make such statements. His blue eyes - if they can be called his - also seem to suggest that he is innocent and new. On it goes:

"No one knows what it's like / to be hated / to be fated / to telling only lies"

Nothing really knew. The author still assumes he is the only person in the world, hatred is obviously only known to him (or not even that). Somebody is probably also telling lies... Who could that be?
We could start a vague interpretation now, about him being in the place of an unwanted baby. The first line already mentioned that he is the bad and the sad guy, yet innocent, if we interpret the blue eyes that way. Probably indoctrinated by an outside world sworn against him. Let's see how it goes on:

"But my dreams they aren't as empty / as my conscience seems to be / I have hours / only lonely / my love is vengeance / that's never free"

Interesting! He has dreams that seem to be more than his own ethnic and moral principles dictate him. Moral principles that we can assume were forced upon him. It seems he wants to be someone else. He has much time, but is lonely and loving is a big problem for him. Another sign that he might have been turned down in his early years. Next line:

"No one knows what its like / to feel these feelings / like i do / and i blame you!

The problem with his love seems to be quite troublesome. He is grieving and anger is deep inside him. A figure is somewhere out there, that is the cause of his situation. With "these feelings" he most probably refers to being hated, feeling sad and bad from above. He talks himself into a situation where he is forced to have some kind of tunnel vision and project his failure on "you".

"No one bites back as hard / on their anger / none of my pain and woe can show through"
As we have pictured in the last line already, he is giving more and more into his situation, neglecting and ignoring possible help and other solutions. The mad baby is born! Slowly we get a feeling why the world calls him bad and hates him.

The rest of the song takes on a similar style. He calls out that there cannot be anybody who'd understand him, because obviously he was innocent with his blue eyes and the world was so mad about him. We don't know if he was really the innocent baby that he claims to be and can only guess. So you'd either believe him and be mad as well, but beware even if you try, he'll give you a hard time understanding him, or you don't believe him and play into the bad world and strength his feelings. What would a Jedi do?

-- Dreamland Song Analyser v0.72 beta --

Dreamland underground

The point in history has arrived where Project Dreamland Inc. has faced and faces numerous threats. There were many discussions on what to do. We had 3 round tables with the leading figures of all departments. One even included dressing up like Knights and replaying the tale of King Arthur - no we didn't find the holy grail. There were about 20 meetings among key account assistant managers and a rough hundred sit ins with the engineers from the supercomputer department where we taught them to cook. They even did their job pretty well. Anyway:

"Plentiful are the risks that threaten our technology dependent institutions."
There is a.) the whole scientific community that wants document after document and project after project, b.) the mathematical department with its regular exercises and c.) the precious spare time that is being wasted with computer games. Not to forget d.), e.) and f.) to spend time with friends, hang out or love your loved one (if you have a loved one to love). And if you are somewhat hooked to the internet as I am then there are also g.) forums to visit, read and post.
This all led to an unsatisfying situation where a.) was neglected and c.) enforced, next to g.) but not d.), e.) or f.).
It would not be much of a hassle to find c.), r.), e.), a.), t.), i.), v.), i.), t.), y.) has been completely vanished and the resulting state k.) is not a desirable one. Therefore action l.) has been introduced and will hopefully bring m.), o.), t.), i.), v.), a.), t.), i.), o.), n.) back.

Next summer Project Dreamland Inc. is probably moving to Spain. Let's hope that the necessary documents will be permitted.

Dreamland Alternative Life

Probably everyone of us has asked what it's like to be living outside the system. Numerous of our activity reports recently focused on the choice to live a life off the grid. We examined various technologies in the field of Greenhome Building as well as gathering on what knowledge is needed to survive in wild nature.
Another group examined what was holding people back and asking about fears, dreams and hopes of people who made it and succeeded and those who failed (as long as they survived). The results have yet to be analyzed more closely and I may not present anything right now. Let's just say that some of us will always stay pioneers and adventurers and for the expansion of the human mankind further into space, we'll have to rely on these kind of people.

Dreamland Medicine

"I warn ya. "Doc....! Doctor! I had 2 heart attacks last week, another one and I'll die.... pleeaase help me doctor!" And within minutes Dr. Wonderlove turned this crippled old fart into a healthy old fart.

"The power that love has given me, I shall use to aid and help"

It is only about time that we at Project Dreamland Inc. look into Dr. Wonderlove's wonderful medical services, recreate them and continue in his tradition to aid and help all human beings. Exactly! "All of a sudden" and "quiet" rarely go hand in hand and most of the time you'd live well without the sudden suddenness that is introduced... well.
To counter this situation Project Dreamland Inc. has developed several solutions. The first involves a lot of noise for itself and a heavy machine gun. We found this "solution" to be very impractical and with considerable bad side effects. The second solution mentioned in the activity report assembles around powerful headphones and a good batch of mp3 encoded music. Not really great either when you wanted to enjoy quietness in the first place.
Building a sonic proof environment is just mentioned on a side note, because clearly it is not only impractical to carry around the components, but also the construction process would surely generate a lot of noise and even with our newly developed noiseless tools the time to build it must also be taken into consideration.
Project Dreamland Inc. has found a satisfying solution. We have invented a force-shield generator that is small enough to fit into your pocket. It will analyze incoming sonic waves for artificiality and only let natural and enjoying sounds through. And you can even cut that out.
Our music department is delighted and will continue to research how these sound waves can be used to create instant-music. We are all looking forward to their results, but until we haven't developed more powerful batteries, we'll still have to bear the noise when all of a sudden...

Dreamland Alcohol

A new kind of liquor..... a new kind of kind of liquor, something the whole world has been waiting upon. Points are of use in numerous daily and special situations. One can have a point in a discussion, another one can distribute points among his students or competence to form a ranking and on very special occasions points are used to form the ending of a very long sentence.
Points can mark interesting places on a map and if something is not clear, you may always point it out. Sometimes it depends on your point of view, but almost always you will have to take point for yourself if something does not seem right.
We at Project Dreamland Inc. have taken the point concept one step further. In one of the recently published activity reports the colored point and more specifically, the Red Point is mentioned. Red Points can be of use in everyday life to mark places of danger or during a non-emotional telepathy conversation to function as emoticons. Sometimes, and this was the primary motive during development, they describe those little things that may appear on your body every now and then. We here at Project Dreamland Inc., take our break outdoors enjoying the warm, UV-filtered sun rays touching our bodies and painting them in every color due to the use of our own Spare Time Division's latest engineering sample of "Suntan Color". It seems funny at first and is truly a wonderful new addition to the line of our upcoming products. People will not only run around with a tan, but with every color they want. Paint your body blue, red, yellow, green, what you want and mix them forming great patterns or art. The effect will last approximately one summer, so you'll get a new look every year - hooray!

Dreamland Datacables

The standardization and normalization process that is about to finish in the Project Dreamland Inc. Headquarters has emerged a new type of cable: The UDC - Universal Data Cable. The great thing about the UDC is, that it works with every known device. It has auto wirecount adaption features and pin recognition. You just hold it opposite to the connector for several seconds and it will morph to fit in. The in-wire-neural net will recognize what every pin is for and autoconfigure the cable. Cable length is variable to some extent. Production and shipping dates are yet unknown as more development is still put in, reducing the negative side effects such as random-beam-upon-touching. Our engineers have reported in from all over the world already. If you see someone claiming to be from Project Dreamland Inc. please tell him to stay calm, we are on the way.

Dreamland Durability

We are astounished by the poor quality of nowadays products. Everything is supposed to be so wonderfully easy. You take your plastic card with your money on it, plug it into the next beverages machine and enjoy a cold bottle of some well known brand.
Whatever, that is not the case. Upon approaching this machine you are about to decide wether it is worth waiting in the line or finding another one. You decide it is worth it and so you wait, daydreaming about an island surrounded by miles of fresh water. Finally you get to choose your drink, only to find out that the quick card slot doesnt seem to recognize that you inserted your card. Okay probably the chip is damaged. Out and in. No. hmmm. You rub the chip with your fingers, with your trousers. In - no - out. You look back right into the next ones angry face. Okay... coins. He was quoted as saying "It is time that we beat our own deadlines. People will work harder and smarter all at the same time." And further he presented a new device which speeds up brain execution time by a factor of up to 18%. "With the help of cybernetic technology, we will be the first to step into the 22nd century. And that after the 21st has just begun. Let me say that I am proud!" He finished his speech presenting an overview of yesterday's reports and afterwards released the teams to their duties.

Dreamland Mobility

A recent activity report in our mobile department has surfaced amazing results. The APTV-MkI is mentioned on several occasions. The APTV-MkI stands for "Advanced Personal Transportation Vehicle" and is what you could best describe as "car of the future". Its abilities extend to the use of multidimensional traveling, hyperspace acceleration and wormhole collision avoidance. The report was only in my hands for about 5 minutes and I could not remember any more details. A sidenote mentioned a first prototype date of several decades though. It said something about quantum computing prerequisites that have yet to be developed. Nevertheless you can understand how excited I was skimming through this report.

Welcome

A new blog is born.
Please feel welcomed.
